Black Label Society – Doom Crew Inc. (2021)

In the early fall of 2021, word came out that Zakk and the boys will finally release the long shelved follow up for “Grimmest Hits” and damn, I had high hopes and expectations. As someone who started to really appreciate his work just a few years ago (when “Trampled down below” was released as a single) I was stoked for new tunes.
“Set you free” and “End of days” were put out as singles with two hillarious videos along with them.

And … I was rather disappointed with those songs. Sure the videos are funny but the songs not as good as I had hoped. Oh well, what can you do? Wait for the full damn album to be out of course. In November it hit the market and soon as, I sure gave it a spin. A lot of fledged journalists praise the songwriting skills and that he really improved his singing and blah blah.
Hey wait – don’t get me wrong here. It IS a good album – but … in my mind it could and should have been more … well, in lack of better words: fresh. Yes, the songs are solid, the production is awesome, his tone is great as usual and of course everyone in the band is doing a great job. But still, something inside me is missing something.
A handful of songs keep growing on me after a few dozen spins, these are:
1) Ruins
2) Forsaken
3) Gospel of Lies (hell, just for the sabbath riff lol)

What do y’all think?? Feel free to comment.
